Routemaster

We are very fortunate to have this iconic bus on long-term loan. It is one of only two RM models that still has its original body. It was based in Enfield for many years, but also served in Glasgow in the 1990s

AEC Routemasters were built from 1954-68, with 2,876 being made. The open platform allowed boarding and alighting away from bus stops and the vehicle’s lightweight aluminium design gave good fuel consumption whilst seating 64 passengers. Independent front suspension, power steering, a fully automatic gearbox and power hydraulic brakes made for a more driver-friendly environment too.
